Is a hooded tray right for your cat?

Hooded trays keep litter off the floor and give a nervous cat somewhere private, and most cats take to them without a second thought. Some do not. Cats who feel cornered, and cats in multi-cat households where one bullies another, often prefer an open tray they can see out of. If your cat starts going elsewhere after you switch, the tray is usually the reason rather than the cat.

The general rule is one tray per cat plus one spare, kept somewhere quiet and away from food and water bowls.

Care

Scoop daily and wash the whole tray out weekly with warm water and unscented washing-up liquid. Do not use bleach, disinfectants containing phenol, or strongly scented cleaners — cats find them off-putting and some are harmful to them. Dry it fully before refilling.
